Monthly Dinner Meetings

It is important to confirm your attendance for our monthly dinner meetings.

"Any member who confirms they will be attending an event and fails to show shall be invoiced for the appropriate amount. Cancellation without penalty must be made by noon 2 days prior to the event."

You should receive an email or phone call from our Phone Committee about one week before our scheduled meetings. If you plan to attend the meetings, it is important that your notify your phone committee contact or our Attendance Director: Chris Armer at (604) 582-2258. 		The Honorable Stockwell Day President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway
	Stockwell Day is President of the Treasury Board of Canada and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in a by-election in September 2000, and was re-elected in the general elections of 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008. Upon his election in 2000, he was named Leader of the Official Opposition and remained in this role until December 2001. Following that, Mr. Day served as Official Opposition Critic for Foreign Affairs. From April 2002 to May 2004, he was Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade. In 2006, Mr. Day was appointed Minister of Public Safety and became a member of the Cabinet Committee on Priorities and Planning. Upon his re-election in 2008, Mr. Day was appointed Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. He was also appointed Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Afghanistan. From 1986 to 2000, Mr. Day represented Red Deer North in the Alberta Legislature, where he served in the Progressive Conservative Government in a variety of senior roles, including Chief Whip, Government House Leader, Minister of Labour and Minister of Social Services. From 1997 to 2000 he was Provincial Treasurer (Minister of Finance) and Acting Premier. As the Alberta Treasurer, Mr. Day introduced Canada's first single rate (flat) tax. Mr. Day was born in Barrie, Ontario in 1950. He attended the University of Victoria and has lived in various regions of Canada. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Rotary Club. He and his wife, Valorie, have three sons.

		Richard Rotteveel Shadowline Transportation Group.
	Biography Richard comes from a background of new business development in a variety of industries. He joined the Shadowline Transportation Group a few years ago doing special projects for the various companies. The last year Richard has been heavily involved in the Container Sales division as well as participating in the Temporary Homeless Relief Shelter project. Richard is known for spending most of his time on the water messing with boats. This "good news" presentation of the Temporary Homeless Relief Shelter will demonstrate how a transportation company can give back to the community and the various challenges that were over come while doing good for the community. Hopefully it will provide inspiration for all members of the Transportation Industry to participate in some way on this type of project for the good of the community.

		Sany R. Zein, M.Eng., P.Eng. Manager - Road & Infrastructure Planning TransLink (South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority)
	Biography Sany Zein is the Manager of Road and Infrastructure Planning with TransLink. He is responsible for developing and implementing policies, guidelines, strategies and programs related to the regional Major Road Network; regional goods movement; and the regional bicycle network. Sany is a Professional Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in transportation engineering and planning, with both the private and public sectors. He is the recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Professional Award from the Vancouver Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. He has worked on transportation projects across Canada, across the United States, and overseas. Sany has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, and he also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at the Civil Engineering Department at the University of British Columbia. Abstract “A Look to the Future: TransLink’s Regional Road and Goods Movement Initiatives” This presentation will provide a peek at the future and focus on TransLink’s latest and upcoming initiatives in the area of road improvements and goods movements. Working in partnership with the regional municipalities, the provincial government, the federal government, and other stakeholders, TransLink helps to improve the efficiency of regional roads and goods movements through minor and major capital projects.

		Lizette Parsons Bell, BA Director Operations Communications Metro Vancouver Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
	Lizette is the Director Operations Communications Metro Vancouver for Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games; seconded from Concert Properties Ltd. where she lead the Communications team for three years. Lizette joined VANOC in November 2008 to lead a newly created team - Operations Engagement Team (OET). The team's primary objective is to engage with business and residents' associations, businesses and property management companies to share information and identify potential issues and impacts that may result from the operation of the competition and noncompetition venues in Metro Vancouver in 2010. With over 16 yeas of experience, Lizette is a 'hands on', energetic, creative, proactive, results orientated and people-focused strategy communications leader with a record of successes in building and strengthening relationships with a range of stakeholders, including diverse ethnic groups, media, all levels of government, community groups and NGOs and delivering winning communications strategies. Her experience has been acquired through work assignments in Australia, Mexico, Canada and the USA. Lizette is also actively involved in communities, both professionally and personally. Lizette holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Victoria and a Certificate in Community Relations and External Communications from Simon Fraser University.

		Dale Bracewell, P.Eng. Director, Olympic Transportation City of Vancouver
	Dale is a professional transportation engineer and has worked in Engineering Services at the City of Vancouver for the last ten years. He holds a Master’s degree in Transportation from the University of British Columbia and his experience includes working for the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Highways and at CN Rail. Dale is currently the Director of Olympic Transportation and is responsible for coordinating the City's transportation planning and operations with local transportation partners and VANOC, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He is also responsible for the construction and implementation of the Olympic Line, a modern streetcar transit service from Granville Island to the Canada Line during the Games.

		Graham Kee Vice President, Olympic Operations Port Metro Vancouver
	Graham Kee brings over 25 years of exemplary policing and security experience as well as in-depth knowledge of port operations and related businesses to his current position of Vice President, Olympic Operations -- overseeing Port Metro Vancouver's land/marine Olympic operations coordination. A native of Saint John, NB, Graham began his career with the Vancouver Port Authority in 1997 as Chief of Security. Prior to this, he spent 17 years with municipal and ports policing in Vancouver, Saint John and Prince Edward Island. In 2008 he joined Port Metro Vancouver's executive team. Graham is a member of the Canada Pacific Chapter of ASIS International. He is a gradute of the Atlantic Police Academy and holds an Executive Management Certificate from Simon Fraser University.

		Darrell Desjardin Port Metro Vancouver
	Darrell Desjardin Darrell Desjardin brings more than 20 years of experience in port environmental management in Canada, the U.S. and overseas to his position as Director, Environmental Programs for Port Metro Vancouver. Darrell joined the Vancouver Port Authority, now Port Metro Vancouver, in 1991 with the formation of the first environmental department in the Canadian port system. Darrell’s varied responsibilities take him above and below the water in Canada's largest port. In his current role, Darrell leads a multi-specialist department of environmental scientists, biologists and engineers to develop and implement programs to promote sustainable port development and operations to reduce impacts to air, land and water, fish and wildlife habitats, surrounding communities and First Nations. Darrell is currently the Chair of the Burrard Inlet Environmental Action Program-Fraser Estuary Management Program. He holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree (B.Sc.) in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia. Darrell.desjardin@portmetrovancouver.com Tim Glasheen – Brief bio Tim is Port Metro Vancouver’s Director Engineering & Maintenance, a professional engineer with a civil engineering degree from McGill University and 34 years of experience, primarily in construction, maintenance and engineering management. He has been responsible for numerous PMV engineering and construction projects, including PMV’s portion of the Deltaport Berth 3 expansion project.

		Kathy Peters Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service
	Kathy joined Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) in 2003 following a twenty year career with Teamsters Local Union No. 31 and, briefly, with the Office and Professional Employees’ International Union. As an elected executive board member and officer, Kathy’s employment with both unions included contract negotiations, grievance handling, and arbitrations. She also served as the chief financial officer with Local 31 prior to her departure in 2002. Since joining FMCS Kathy has been involved in numerous conciliation and grievance mediation appointments in a variety of industries within the Federal jurisdiction. In addition, Kathy also participates on a National Mediator training committee that has developed a five-day training module for mediators and conciliation officers. This training has been presented to approximately sixty-five mediators and Labor Relations Officers across the country. Kathy also volunteers as a Community Facilitator with Mission Restorative Resolutions, an organization that follows the practices of Restorative Justice.

		John Hansen Northwest Cruise Ship Association
	John is president of the North West Cruise Ship Association, a trade association of the international cruise lines operating in the Pacific NW, Alaska, Canada and Hawaii. The Association works on behalf of the 8 member lines to maintain positive relations with governments and communities in the region, and provides a focal point in the region on matters of common interest to all the lines, including security, port development and environmental protection. NWCA also provides security screening services for the lines for passengers and crew boarding in Vancouver. NWCA is based in Vancouver Canada and is closely affiliated with the Cruise Lines International Association in Miami. John joined the NWCA in 1999. Prior to that he was Deputy Managing Director of the Vancouver Board of Trade. John is a mechanical engineer, a graduate of the University of Toronto and holds a masters degree from the University of British Columbia. He and his wife, Sandra live in the village of Half Moon Bay in BC.
